What a scandal! Rio Tinto pays $800M+ in compensation for Juukan, a site that wasn't sacred, and legally blasted
Exposing the Traitors Profiteering from Misinformation
As I am sure you have read, the Juukan Hoax is still all over the media, this time Rio Tinto has agreed on a compensation package for the Juukan blast to the PKKP (the local Aboriginal native title group). The financial amount has not been disclosed. I am told it is more than $850M. That's on top of the royalties that the PKKP has already received (c. $200M. according to my assessment). What will happen with all this money?
What a scandal! I can't believe that Rio Tinto paid for a site that wasn't sacred, that was legally blasted, and that was shown as an example of collaboration!
Now I'd like to talk to you about Burchell Hayes, the Chairman of the PKKP:
This is what he said about the package:
“No amount of money will ever replace that, I'd rather have the rock shelter back than you write me a cheque," he said.'
What a liar!
Burchell Hayes participated in the excavations...back in 2009 see in the 'acknowledgement section here:
Burchell Hayes didn't try to protect the cave. No ceremonies were performed there. The PKKP didn't know about the caves before the excavations took place...
In 2011, the Juukan caves were not listed on the list of sites of significance - where was Chairman Hayes back then?
Worse: the PKKP never formally objected to the section 18 (authorisation to blast) grated in 2013. NEVER!!!
In 2014, during the Colours of the Country festival, the Juukan caves were presented as an example of collaboration between Rio Tinto and the PKKP.
Burchell Hayes was attending the festival.
So tell me, how can Hayes say that he didn't know that the caves were going to be blasted?
Why is Chairman Hayes shocked now and milking it as much as he can when he knew from 2009 that the caves were going to be destroyed...and he never objected (until the explosives had been loaded of course).
Burchell Hayes is a liar. I call this a malicious misrepresentation.
